Procedure for installing new playgrounds:
When a school or council organises the purchase of a playground, it must adhere to AS 4685. An Independent Playground Assessor reviews the plans to spot any non-compliance (the Education Department specifies its requirements, and Australian Standards also contain detailed specifications). It is much easier to ensure the playground complies before installation, as making changes to equipment after installation can be expensive.
Once the playground is installed, the Independent Playground Assessor can review the work prior to commissioning, ensuring proper oversight throughout the process.
Inspection of Playgrounds:
Playgrounds include not only play equipment but also ancillary items that must be reported on during the assessment. Ancillary items cover seats, tables, barriers, bins, shade structures, footpaths, drinking fountains, and more.
